Neuroscience Student Awards

Each year, the Neuroscience program gives three awards to top students within the program.

Neuroscience Academic Excellence Award

This award goes to the graduating Neuroscience major who has the highest GPA. The student with the highest GPA (to the hundredth decimal point) who has completed 60 hours or more from IUPUI at the time of graduation will receive this award. If two or more students have identical GPAs (to the hundredth decimal point), the student with the most IUPUI hours completed at the time the award decision is made by the faculty will receive the award. (The only exception will be that all students with 4.0's will receive the award). This award will go to a Neuroscience student graduating the previous December, current May, or upcoming August, of the academic year in which the award is given.

Neuroscience Outstanding Service Award

This award is made to a graduating senior for considerable and outstanding service to the Neuroscience program at IUPUI. This award will go to a Neuroscience student graduating the previous December, current May, or upcoming August, of the academic year in which the award is given.

Nominations from faculty and students (students may self-nominate) are accepted beginning in November of each academic year. To nominate a student, please email Cindy Williams (cyclark@iupui.edu) providing the name of the nominee, as well as a statement indicating why the nominee should be considered for the award. Nominees may be contacted separately and asked to provide a statement of service accomplishments and a curriculum vita or resume.

Neuroscience Outstanding Research Award

This award goes to a graduating Neuroscience major who has extensively participated and excelled in research in the neurosciences. This award will go to a Neuroscience student graduating the previous December, current May, or upcoming August, of the academic year in which the award is given.

  • Primary criteria - Total papers accepted for publication, papers accepted for presentation, or amount of contribution by the student to research, especially in generating research ideas and in writing papers.
  • Secondary criteria - Overall GPA, leadership and service in Neuroscience activities.
